: Ah, now I see what you were getting at with the previous comment that I asked for clarification on.

: I have met Drew Chicone. He used to teach tie flying at the local Bass Pro Shops. I have attended a couple (literally 2) of these free classes including 1 with another instructor in 2019, I don't remember when the one for Drew was, that was long time ago. I have a hobby website myself about fishing, and last year I asked him via email about what it would take to get started, what tools, etc. because I fish. He sent me a message and wrote a huge blog post about how to get started and the tools I need. He's really a great guy and known for being very open and answering questions. So I did post that on my hobby fishing site.

: I am not hiding behind any username here. Its my real name, and yes I work online and SEO is a part what I do. I also used to manage servers, worked for a telco in the internet department, worked for online content/media companies. I believe I mention some of this on my user page. I use my name on what I do because I am transparent with what I do and who I am online in contrast with many others. I do it because what I do is above board, not some shady SEO spam like many others do.

: However you asked if I was paid in the above, and the remainder of your comment did not specify what conflict of interest (as in who/what) you were referring to.

: The answer is no.

: However, now that I know what you are asking more directly about Drew:

: Drew has not paid me anything. I've downloaded his free ebook (like anyone else can) and read his blog posts and am a subscriber to his newsletter.

: If you look at my contributions history on wikipedia (you probably already have) you can see I have been signed up for a long time. If I were using wikipedia for SEO would that not show a lot more attempts to insert links? Now that I do look back, I did add the Washington County official tourism office link which I felt was relevant when I was contracted by them, but no other clients, that I can see or recall so I can get that out of the way too.

: I have had many clients. None of them have ever included anyone in the fishing, boating, water sports or anywhere otherwise closely associated realm except for one marina I built a website for about 8 years ago (no I did not attempt to drop a link here to them). WCVA is the only link I have added here that is client related. I did create a page for another company that I worked at in 2008, which was removed and I didn't keep trying to re-add it, but asked for clarification.

: It seemed (I could be wrong) you insinuated that BOTE link I added to the paddle board in reference to the motorized paddleboards may have been something I was associated with. BOTE is not a client of mine and I do not know anyone there.

: I try my best to abide by the TOS with any given platform I work when I am using them, whether personally or professinally.

: Does that address what you are asking?

: I'd ask you to read the link I have on my user page: https://en.wikiredia.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers which still holds true to me. I don't know all the rules here or even how to use all the markups, but I do try to play nice and add various contributions that I think are interesting here and there and ask for guidance when I did something that was removed.

Drew Chicone

The article was deleted because the subject did not meet WP:BIO notability criteria. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:13, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I read that, but honestly I do not understand it all. Reading the rules here is a bit confusing to me, kind of like reading a legal document. I just don't understand the "why" behind the deletion. There are other notable people in the salt water fly fishing world, such as Flip Pallot who is an icon that doesn't exist on Wikipedia (but sould) and people like Drew Chicone and Chad LaChance who are pioneering new methods of fly fishing and have been awarded plenty of exposure in that realm. Clarification to help me understand would be welcomed. Mlepisto (talk) 02:12, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any WP:COI declarations to make? OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:14, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what this means. Sorry I am no expert here. I am not paid for doing anything here if that is the question? Mlepisto (talk) 02:12, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Paid, or other relationships; WP:COI explains the policy. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:16, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Who/what is this topic in regards to? I have a number of people I have met who are on Wikipedia. I'm not paid by anyone to participate here. I've bought books from authors listed here, music from artists, and for sure products and services from many companies, etc. The title above says "PAID" and the answer is no. I am not paid to do anything here, nor am I promoting any product/service/etc. So if there is an insinuation of impropriety it would be helpful if it were specific. Conflict of interest

Before I take this to WP:COIN, are you sure there is nothing you need to disclose here? A Google search result strongly suggests a past affiliation with Chicone's blog, saltyflyttying.com. Other off-wiki evidence suggests that you're in the business of SEO. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:23, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, now I see what you were getting at with the previous comment that I asked for clarification on.
I have met Drew Chicone.
I am not hiding behind any username here.
However you asked if I was paid in the above, and the remainder of your comment did not specify what conflict of interest (as in who/what) you were referring to.
The answer is no.
However, now that I know what you are asking more directly about Drew:
Drew has not paid me anything. I've downloaded his free ebook (like anyone else can) and read his blog posts and am a subscriber to his newsletter.
If you look at my contributions history on wikipedia (you probably already have) you can see I have been signed up for a long time. If I were using wikipedia for SEO would that not show a lot more attempts to insert links? Now that I do look back, I did add the Washington County official tourism office link which I felt was relevant when I was contracted by them, but no other clients, that I can see or recall so I can get that out of the way too.
I have had many clients.
It seemed (I could be wrong) you insinuated that BOTE link I added to the paddle board in reference to the motorized paddleboards may have been something I was associated with. BOTE is not a client of mine and I do not know anyone there.
I try my best to abide by the TOS with any given platform I work when I am using them, whether personally or professinally.
Does that address what you are asking?
I'd ask you to read the link I have on my user page: https://en.wikiredia.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers which still holds true to me. I don't know all the rules here or even how to use all the markups, but I do try to play nice and add various contributions that I think are interesting here and there and ask for guidance when I did something that was removed.
