Ambo or ambos can mean any of the folowing:
- Ambo, Ethiopia
- Kom Ombo
- ambulance
- Ambo (band)
- Huttons Ambo, a village (or, rather, two villages in Yorkshire
The original Greek meaning of ambo was
- One of the two raised stands in early Christian churches from which parts of the service were chanted or read.
Ambo now has two meanings, viz. 'together' or 'both', and 'raised'
In Spanish, 'ambos' means "both" (maybe otehr langauges as well)
... as in 'ambidextrous' and probably lots of other words I've never heard of. (Does anyone know an internet source for a dictionary in alphabetical order, so I could browse all the "amb...."s?
