The 2020 Lanka Premier League will be the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka.[1] It is scheduled to start on 28 August and finish on 20 September 2020.[1] Five teams based on various Sri Lankan cities will play a total of twenty three matches. By the end of July 2020, 70 overseas players had shown their interest in playing in the league.[2] On 9 August 2020, names of the teams were revealed.[3] However, on 11 August 2020, SLC confirmed that the first edition of the tournament had been postponed until at least the middle of November 2020.[4] On 2 September 2020, a revised schedule was issued, with the tournament expected to run from 14 November to 6 December 2020.[5]
