Dictionary definitions at Matrix

The word etymology information you added to Matrix is certainly interesting, but unfortunately it does not belong on a disambiguation page. The disambiguation page links to Wiktionary, which would be a more appropriate place for the information. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about disambiguation pages. -- Natalya 15:45, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possible typos?

In reference to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plane_stress http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plane_strain

Are you sure "i.e the normal stress σ33 and the shear stresses σ12 and σ23 (if the thickness is the 3-direction)" shouldnt read "i.e the normal stress σ33 and the shear stresses σ13 and σ23 (if the thickness is the 3-direction)"?

Likewise, "i.e the normal strain ε33 and the shear strains ε12 and ε23 (if the length is the 3-direction)" -> "i.e the normal strain ε33 and the shear strains ε13 and ε23 (if the length is the 3-direction)"?

Of course. Go ahead and change it.RDT2 12:47, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Symmetry of Stress Tensor

Could you please add a good reference for the possibility of a non symmetric stress tensor in the Stress_(physics) article? As you are probably aware there are a huge amount of sources giving "proofs" that the stress tensor is always symmetric, no matter what the situation. These range from explicit assumptions of zero moments, to nonsense, to outright browbeating. Sometimes by otherwise quite reputable sources. A good reference to the contrary would really make the Wikipedia article an authoritative source.

I've added a reference to Fung in the 'body moments' link.RDT2 11:30, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
