Tulsi Pujan Diwas is an Indian festival that is celebrated annually on 25 December. The plant tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) is planted and worshiped on the occasion. The festival was started by Asaram Bapu.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

In Hinduism, tulsi is used for medicinal and spiritual purposes. It is sacred in the religion, and Hindus believe that tulsi brings prosperity.[7][8][9]

Celebration

Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti organizes the celebration of Tulsi Pujan Diwas annually.[10][11][12] Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal also celebrate this festival on 25 December.[13]

In Hinduism, Tulsi is worshiped by offering water, Indian sandalwood (chandan), sindoor, rice, flowers and holy food (prasad). Diya lamps are lit to worship the plant.[14][5] People are encouraged to grow tulsi plants in their homes to benefit the environment.[15]

Significance

Tulsi is also referred to as the "queen of herbs".[16] It is considered as an auspicious in Hinduism. Ayurveda medicine claims that it can cure many diseases.[17][18][19]

It is used as a natural remedy for stress, anxiety, adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism, unbalanced blood sugar, type 2 diabetes and acne.[20] It can also be used to treat the common cold, spurts of coughing, and the flu.[21]
