SkyHive is a cloud-based workforce management and reskilling software provider using Artificial Intelligence technology. Established in 2017, the company works on reducing global unemployment and underemployment.

Overview

SkyHive was founded by Sean Hinton in 2017 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada[1] with offices in California, United States.

The platform connects workers to new opportunities within and outside their current organizations, based on their individual skill sets, career goals, and retraining needs.

In November 2020, the company raised $8 million in a Series A funding round led by AllegisCyber Capital with participation of Accenture, Workday Ventures, and the Partnership Fund for New York City.[2]

SkyHive extracts and matches employee skills against job / future job requirements, identifies optimized career pathways and recommends learning solutions.[3][4][5]

Quantum Labor Analysis - Technology

Quantum Labor Analysis is a methodology invented and commercialized by SkyHive. It is an application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze workforces at the most granular skills level.

Using Quantum Labor methodology, the company delivers real-time, skill-level insights to analyze internal workforces and external labor markets, identifying future and emerging skills, to facilitate individual-and organization-level reskilling.[6]

Awards and Accolades

SkyHive was awarded a B Corporation certification in June, 2019. B Corporation certification is a private certification of for-profit companies that impact "social and environmental performance".[7]

In 2020, SkyHive won the Technology Impact Award for the category "Spirit of BC Tech – Purpose". This award celebrates companies that demonstrate how purpose inspired them to start their business.[8]

In September 2020, CIX Canadian Innovation Exchange announced SkyHive as one of the CIX Top 20 Early and CIX Top 10 Growth innovative Canadian technology startups.[9]

In 2018, SkyHive was selected for the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) Program created by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), in a series of 16 defence and security challenges. One challenge was to increase the recruitment and retention of women to reach 25% representation by 2026.[10]

Partnerships

In March 2020, Accenture formed a strategic partnership with SkyHive for Project Spotlight. As part of the project, startups that address areas of large scale strategic importance are selected to help fill innovation gaps for the Global 2000s. These areas include closing employee skills gaps, data sovereignty, the future of work, edge systems at scale, and predictive systems.

In a joint partnership, SkyHive and Accenture were selected by the World Economic Forum to collaborate with Walmart and Unilever on a proof-of-concept to reskill and redeploy people so they can be employable between the corporations.[4]

At the World Economic Forum’s Jobs Reset Summit, Leena Nair, Unilever's Chief Human Resources Officer, announced a “first of its kind”, collaborative partnership with Walmart, Accenture, and SkyHive to create “reskilling and redeployment pathways” for thousands of roles in the consumer goods industry.[11]

TECHNATION partnered with SkyHive to develop CareerFinder under the guidance of Tri-sector Cybersecurity Talent Alliance. The project was partly funded by the Government of Canada's Sectoral Initiatives Program.[12]
