Sekere is a type of traditional Yoruba music played and popularized by Ibadan musicians such as the late Alhaji Alamu Atatalo. Sekere, in this sense, is accompanied by dundun, omele, agogo, agidigbo, other instruments, and a chorus. Sekere by itself is a melodic shaker; beads or cowrie shells beautifully wound around a gourd. The gourd is then violently shaken and beaten by fists; ocassionaly, it's hoisted up in the air to create a festive mood.
