Thaik Taing (r. 516–523) was a King of the Early Pagan Kingdom. He moved the palace to Tampawaddy, near Thiri Pyissaya.[1]
Reign
When all 438 of his sons tried to ascended the throne a huge war broke out at the palace which led to Thiri Pyitsaya being abandoned. The town was later renamed as Tampawaddy . The reason for the relocation is unknown. However, the landslide on the banks of the Irrawaddy River seems to have been worse since then, given in the 652nd Chinese inscription, “ငါ့ကောင်းမှုကို ဖျက်သသူကား ညောင်ဦးကသည် သီရိပစ္စယာတိုင်အောင် ကမ်းပြိုသကဲ့သို့ စီးပွားချမ်းသာယုတ်စေသော်” (Nyaung U, who destroyed my good deeds, wreaked havoc on Thiripyitsaya.) It seems that the king moved to a safer inland area to prevent the riverbank from collapsing.
He died at the age of seven. [2]
