Military press

The military press is a weight training exercise that is often used for bodybuilding or powerlifting. It is intended for the development of the shoulder, or deltoid muscles.

The lift begins with the lifter standing and the barbell held in front of the lifter's neck. The lifter then raises the barbell overhead. To bring the barbell to the starting position, the lifter can either clean the bar off the floor to the shoulders or take the bar from a rack.

Sometimes seated presses are referred to as military presses. This is a misnomer; properly speaking, a press is described as "military" only if it is done while standing. The military press differs from other standing presses in that no bend in the hips or back is used. [1]
