SpongeBob SquarePants is a Nickelodeon media franchise created by Stephen Hillenburg consisting of television shows, films, video games, and other entries. It commenced in 1999 with the premiere of the television series of the same name. The franchise chronicles the adventures and endeavors of the title character and his aquatic friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom.
