M. N. Ghosh

Manindra Nath Ghosh (also referred to as Dr. M.N. Ghosh) was an Indian pharmacologist, who was the first director of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, India.[1] He was born in 1924 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Dr. Ghosh is the author of "Fundamentals of Experimental Pharmacology," which has been described as one of the most "authoritative and influential book[s] for Pharmacy and Pharmacology."[2] Dr. Ghosh's work has been cited by Sir James W. Black, as a precursor to the research Sir Black won the 1988 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine.[3]


Dr. Ghosh passed away in his home in Kolkata on October 29, 2021 at the age of 97. He is survived by his wife Roma, and his three daughters.
