Typo in Line 1?

Hi all,

Line 1 defining mindset says

"a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people"

Should "notations" be "notions"?

Yes, and this has since been fixed. -- Beland (talk) 23:35, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Nawl in wiki

thanks for your guiding comments. I am new to this.

My objective is to inform about mindset - I am a research fellow on this topic - and performing fundamental research on my own. Hence I thought I would write about this work (that is validated by universities) by myself. I followed the model of the Boston Consulting Group that links their name to their site.

Question 1 I can go around by setting a link from the text in Wiki to a university (where I am teaching the method). Would this be acceptable?

Question 2 May I mention my name in the text in wiki or would this be considered as a kind of advertising ?

thanking in advance kind regards Rene —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rene.rupert (talkcontribs) 26 September 2007

@Rene.rupert: In general, adding content about yourself is frowned upon; at most you would want to ask editors on the talk page to add information about you to the article. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. -- Beland (talk) 23:26, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mindset in Politics

I'm hoping someone can add some citations to the section on mindset in politics. The stuff on the Cold war seems valid but is not reference. Vajrapoppy (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:44, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed and Growth Mindset

Dear all, new to this. However, I have found some relevant information that I believe will enhance the understanding of Fixed and Growth Mindset. In the beginning, I would like to add some examples of how students of both fixed and growth mindset would act. Then as you read on, there is little talk about gender. I think adding in some information on how gender affects the mindset of people and students is essential.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Srj62 (talkcontribs) 11:39, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Srj62: Feel free to be bold and add whatever material you feel is missing, if it's supported by reliable sources. -- Beland (talk) 23:28, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling Variations

Wondering which resource you used for your one-word spelling choice. I see Merriam-Webster—usually the preferred resource for US spelling—using hyphenation. Dictionary.com also uses hyphenated spelling, yet uses single-word spelling in their examples. Anyone have any insight on the spelling? Thanks. Fiona Marissa — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fionaussie (talkcontribs) 08:32, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Fionaussie: If you're referring to the alternate spelling "mind-set", looking at trends.google.com, it appears to be a rare variant, both in the US and the UK. Perhaps it is old-fashioned? Hyphenation of compound words seems to change a lot over time. I expect the vast majority of the cited sources use "mindset". -- Beland (talk) 23:50, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a mess

See also's for sections on the same page isn't even the worst offense. Manys (talk) 23:26, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Manys: Intra-page links have apparently been fixed. Did you see any other actionable problems? -- Beland (talk) 20:36, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Beland: For the most part just the quality of the writing. The first section, "History..." is a mish-mash of passive voice and weird non-WP-style citations like they were copied from a freshman term paper. I'm on the edge of investment in this topic, mine is more of a general WP-quality concern, but maybe I can nibble at it from time to time. It may be that the basic information is fine if the sentences are merely rewritten. Manys (talk) 22:28, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. I've added it to the work queue of the Guild of Copy Editors, though resolving the other problems (like missing citations) will make it more likely to get successfully copyedited. -- Beland (talk) 23:23, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have made some small edits, but I am new and unsure about the process for how to start a larger restructure/clarification for the article? For example, I'm unclear why "in politics" has a higher billing than "growth and fixed". @Manys: do you have any particular area you would like help with? Whowhywhenwhere (talk) 13:46, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whowhywhenwhere, since your're so very new, I can assist you. I mean, you don't seem new to me at all. But looks can be deceiving, right? Maybe it's you being "a long term reader" that has you breezing right along like a pro.
So, how do you want to work together on this? GBFEE (talk) 20:36, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
