Blackford County

@Piccolo2897:—I appreciate your interest in Wikipedia. I noticed you added a category to Blackford County, Indiana called "Sundown towns in America". How does a county qualify to be in a category for towns? Also, the county seat of Blackford County had issues with the Klan in the 1920s, but the Klan was eventually driven out during the same decade. That was 100 years ago—why would the town be considered a Sundown town now? TwoScars (talk) 19:40, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TwoScars, thank you for the question! Based on the way the page was set up, "Sundown Towns in Indiana" had already listed a combination of counties and towns in the categories. We also modeled this page off of other Wikipedia pages that have sundown pages (i.e. Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, etc.), which also include towns and counties in their pages.
Additionally, Brent Campney in "Hostile Heartlands" classified sundown towns as regions that used sundown policies to forcefully expel Black people out (10, 65). Lastly, the sundown towns Wikipedia page mentions that sundown counties and suburbs were created in a similar fashion to sundown towns, so we also wanted to include counties on the page for that reason.
To answer your question about why Blackford County is classified as a sundown town on this page - we are not asserting that they are currently a sundown town, but rather, we acknowledge that Blackford County has had a history with sundown town policies.
