The Gongju Seokjang-ri ruins (Korean: 공주 석장리 유적) are Paleolithic era ruins in Seokjang-ri-dong, Gongju. It was designated as Historic Site No. 334 of the Republic of Korea on October 31 1990.

Overview[edit]

It is a relic of the Paleolithic era on the Geum River from Gongju to Daejeon.

Various stone tools such as jigsaw, scratching, fist axes, and Saegigae were excavated. Charcoal was found in the late Paleolithic house, and as a result of dating it was confirmed to be the site of the house about 25,000 to 30,000 years ago, it was found that people lived here at the time, and it is believed that they lived there during the postwar period. In addition, as a result of investigating the pollen, it was found that there were various plants such as pine trees, fir trees, magnolia, and lilies in this area, which greatly helps to understand the natural environment of the Paleolithic Age.
