Japanese/English names between series?

Why is it that the Japanese names are used for the titles of the character pages for the original Yu-Gi-Oh!, but for GX the US names are used? Shouldn't they be consistent?

Technically, the names used for the original characters aren't the "Japanese" but the "English manga" characters. The VIZ comics published in the USA and Canada have separate conventions from the English anime, although the cards and a few of the characters (Pegasus, Croquet, Odion) have their English names in the comic. Also, characters who don't appear in the manga who appear in the English anime (Noah Kaiba, Dartz and his lackeys) have their dub names used. WhisperToMe 23:01, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Card List

For future reference, Janime's site could be useful. Character deck lists can be found here: http://janime.info/Genex/cards.html

Should the Ojama cards really be listed? I mean, he only uses them once, and to return Chazz to his old self. It would be like saying Yugi uses Blue-Eyes because he once used Kaiba's deck against Noah. They're not really his, he just borrows them for a couple episodes. • It's a bit of a problem, given that he plays other cards other than the obvious Ojama cards as well, like Over Limit, Shield Attack, and Mystik Wok, we can't tell with certainity whether they too count as part of his deck. Since it's really minor, I would opt to just keep it as is. --Benten 00:21, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Actually, I'm going to remove the obvious Ojama cards, and leave the rest; conserves space. Will just keep that note about the Ojama cards at the top, and that should be fine. --Benten 00:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Differences

Right, let me get this right out there first and foremost: I don't watch the dub. I got sick of it after less than half a dozen episodes. Thus, I don't have a lot of knowledge regarding the dub, except the name and voice differences of the characters. However, having come across the Wikipedia articles, I've discovered that there are a surprising number of instances in which the dub and original versions are different- for example, the article says "Jaden" decided to stay in Red for reasons involving passion or whatever. However, in the original, Judai just says he just likes the view of the ocean that the Red dorms have (unlike 4Kids, the original doesn't bother with trying to cover up the fact that he's a goofball). And of course, this is nothing compared to the outright ridiculous difference in Saious (Sartorious's) plans with the satellite (Brain-washing ray? Please, he was trying to blow it up.) And that's besides all the mildly adult things that have been edited out (bath-house scenes, anyone?), which obviously aren't as noteworthy anyways. Heck, I'd actually propose changing the articles to reflect the way they were originally. Consider the way the DBZ article is treated- a lot of times early on in the dub, Funimation would refer to every instance of someone dying as them being sent to another dimension, but Wikipedia blatantly says "They died." Wonderful, you've addressed about 5% of the matter in question...Y BCZ 04:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I can always just make up a reason if you prefer. JuJube 04:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's an agreed policy to use the English storylines primarily and note the differences as they occur. Personal opinions should not affect this matter. Yes, I think the brain-washing satalite is lame. But it's what we got and it's what we're using. Drake Clawfang 06:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently things like "taking the initiative"/"stop complaining and do something" are beyond you... if it's this important to you, make a section called "Differences Between the English Dub and the Original"...
