Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is a 2021 American live-action/animated coming-of-age mockumentary comedy film directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jenny Slate and Nick Paley, based on a story the three of them created with Elisabeth Holm. It is based on the short films of the same name created and uploaded to YouTube by Fleischer-Camp in 2010. Slate reprises her voice role as Marcel, an anthropomorphic shell living with his grandmother Connie. Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann, and Isabella Rossellini also star.

The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 3, 2021. It is set to be released in the United States on June 24, 2022, by A24. The film received positive reviews from critics.

Marcel, a one-inch-tall shell, searches for his family with the help of a documentary filmmaker.

The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 3, 2021.[1][2] It was also shown at SXSW in March 2022.[3]

In November 2021, A24 acquired the distribution rights.[4] The film is set to be released in the United States on June 24, 2022.[5]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 34 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.4/10.[6] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 82 out of 100 based on thirteen critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[7]
