Assassination of Shinzo Abe

Former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was shot in the chest during a campaign speech near Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara at approximately 11:30 Japan Standard Time on 8 July 2022.[1] Abe was transported to a local hospital with a chest wound, reported to be unconscious with no vitals.[1] The assailant was apprehended by police.[2][3]

According to The Guardian and various other sources, Abe was shot from behind with a shotgun.[4]
