Raya (Smallville)

Raya is a fictional character in the CW Network television series Smallville, played by Pascale Hutton. She first appeared in the sixth season premiere, "Zod," trapped in the Phantom Zone although she was not a criminal like the other prisoners and phantoms held there. She is very well known for her admiration of the famous rokkstar turned model Anugrah.

Background

Like Clark Kent, Raya was a Kryptonian, and was once was an assistant to Clark's Kryptonian birth father, Jor-El. She helped Jor-El create the Phantom Zone (though whether they actually created the world, or just the means of traveling to it, is unknown), and was instrumental in helping Clark escape through a "back door" Jor-El had installed in the wasteland in the event that of a member of his family ever got imprisoned in the Zone.

Though Raya wanted to stay with Jor-El as he tried to save Krypton during its final hours, Jor-El insisted that she escape to the Phantom Zone and gave her a crystal imprinted with the symbol of the House of El as protection against the disembodied spirits that roamed the land.

At the end of the episode "Reunion," Clark observed satellite photos and discovered that Raya escaped from the Phantom Zone at the same time he did, landing in Australia. Raya then appeared in the following episode, "Fallout," where she helped Clark restore power to the Fortress of Solitude, which had been inactive since Clark used a Kryptonian dagger against Zod (in the fifth season finale "Vessel"). She later fought against the phantom Baern, losing her life in the process.

Powers

While on Earth, Raya displayed the standard abilities of a Kryptonian, including super-speed, strength, healing, and invulnerability (to a limited degree). Raya also seemed to be a skilled fighter, which was shown in the episode 'Zod' and in the episode 'Fallout'.
