Awaba is a small town in the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales.

History

The word Awaba is of Aboriginal origin. Its meaing is flat or plain surface, which was the aboriginal term for Lake Macquarie. The word should be pronounced ar-wah-bah.

A timber depot was established there in 1885, and the township created the same year. The railway station was opened in 1887. The first school opened in 1891.
