  • Comment: Sources are mostly primary. Others lack independence of the subject. IE Forbes and other perennial sources appear to be mostly comprised of press releases and direct readers to the PR team of the company. Does not satisfy the high standard of NCORP to have in-depth coverage. MaxnaCarta (talk) 11:34, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Trigo is a computer vision technology company founded by Michael and Daniel Gabay in 2018. Trigo provides a cashierless shopping solution for grocery retailers to implement partially or fully automated stores,[1] similar to Amazon Go, which also uses computer vision, deep learning algorithms, and sensor fusion to track items shoppers pick up and put back, as well as their general movement throughout the store.[2]

History

Trigo was founded in 2018 by Michael and Daniel Gabay.[3] The first pilot began in 2019 with UK grocery retailer Tesco to trial Trigo's cashierless checkout technology[4][5] at the Tesco employee headquarters in Welwyn Garden, UK, which remains open with Trigo’s technology, as of August 2022.[6][7][8]

On October 19, 2021, Trigo launched its second store with Tesco, on High Holborn Street in London,[9] who named the checkout-free store 'GetGo.'[10] In 2021, Trigo also opened stores with retailers REWE in Cologne, Germany on October 26, 2021,[11] and Netto Marken-Discount in Munich, Germany on December 16, 2021.[12]

In late 2021, Trigo announced a partnership with Aldi Nord and opened its first store in Utrecht, the Netherlands in July, 2022.[13][14]

In January 2022, Trigo announced its partnership with Wakefern Food Corp. with whom it will open its first store in the US.[15]

On June 23, 2022, REWE announced another store with Trigo in Berlin in beta testing, to be open by summer 2022.[16]

On July 27, 2022, Tesco announced it would open an additional 'GetGo' Tesco Express, equipped with Trigo’s technology, to be opened on Chiswell Street, London, but didn't report the date.[17]

Funding

Trigo raised $7M in seed funding in 2018, led by Hetz and Vertex Ventures[18], a $22M series A in 2019, led by Red Dot Ventures,[19] and a $60M series B, led by 83North and included Tesco.[20] In June 2021, Trigo raised an additional $10M in capital from REWE and Viola Ventures.[21]. In October 2022 Trigo raised $100M,[22] bringing its total funding to $204M.

Products

Trigo’s ‘EasyOut’ product is a frictionless checkout product similar to Amazon Go, as users scan a QR code at an entry gate to enter the store and then scan the QR code at an exit gate to leave.[23] Shortly after, shoppers receive a receipt with all the items they took from the store.[24] Its retail clients use their own branded app for shoppers to use the technology and enter and/or exit the store.[25]

Beginning in 2022, Trigo announced it will begin to roll out additional products as part of its 'StoreOS' group of solutions, such as inventory management, planogram compliance, and event-driven marketing.[26]

On September 20, 2022, Trigo announced its newest product, an inventory management platform called 'EasyStock.'[27] The 'EasyStock' product includes features such as ‘real-time’ visibility of store inventory and out-of-stock alerts.[28]
