Telling editors to "calm down" or "keep calm" gets them worked up, and is also rude and condescending.

"Calm down" with a smiley isn't better; it's worse. It expresses "I realise telling somebody to calm down may come off as patronising, so I'll try to show with a nice smile that I'm really a nice person and mean no harm. I may be hamfisted and irritating, but I'm nice!"
