Fluppy Dogs
Disney's Fluppy Dogs was a one-hour animated television special which aired on November 27, 1986, and was intended to be a pilot for the third Walt Disney Television animated series. It featured five pastel-colored talking dogs that came through an interdimensional doorway and into the lives of ten year old boy, Jamie, with his slightly older neighbor, Claire. The dogs were the intended prey of the evil miser Wagstaff. Disney's Fluppy Dogs aired on the Disney Channel, which, had the term have been in use then, would have made it the first-ever animated Disney Channel Original Movie, beating out Kim Possible: So the Drama by 19 years.
Plotline
The basic premise for the series, akin to the live-action sci-fi show called "Sliders," was the story of a band of adventurous, cuddly, dog-like creatures who utilized a magical crystal key to open inter-dimensional doorways. They became lost between worlds while trying to find their way home and end up on Earth. Mistaken for actual dogs they are captured and placed in the pound. Jamie, a human, picks out Stanley as a new pet and the adventure begins.
However many of there products were a hit that the pilot was yet even one bit about many other complications on to whether or not there was more fluppies that just the five that appeared in the pilot. Stanley and others try to find there way back home untill they wind up in the human Earth world and are taken to the pound mistakenly as dogs, which they are not. When Jamie's mother picks Stanley, the adventure started when Jamie first get's Stanley as his birthday gift and find out that he can talk.
About the Fluppies
Fluppy Dogs were not like regular dogs that can sit, fetch and eat dog food. The Fluppy Dogs were cute loving creatures that could speak and walk like humans that came from a land of snow and colorful rainbow lights in the sky. When at first the five main fluppies Stanley (Blue), Tippi (Purple), Ozzie (Green), Bink (Yellow) and Dink (Red/Peach) were lost going through different worlds using a key that can open up to different worlds and portals, they found themselves in the world of Earth were humans think that they are really dogs.
Differences with pilot
While she may have been intended for the series, Fanci was not featured in the pilot. Images, dolls, coloring books and puzzles supplied in the 1980's are from a children's book which included Fanci, and were apparently based on preliminary designs for the Fluppies. These are slightly different from the designs that appeared in the actual pilot film. Based on these designs it would appear that the Fluppy Dogs were originally targeted to young girls, and by the time it reach post-production the focus was changed dramatically, but not enough to form a concrete target audience, which might explain its failure to become a regular series.
In the book, the Fluppy Dogs are as follows: Fanci Flup (pink/white with a pink hairbow), Cuddle Flup (purple/white with two purple hairbows), Brave Flup (blue/white with a plaid bandana), Cool Flup (green/white with sunglasses), Shy Flup (peach/white with a flowered hat), and Silly Flup (yellow/white with two yellow hairbows).
