Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names
Navigation: Archives • Instructions for closing administrators • |
This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:
- Report blatantly inappropriate usernames, such as usernames that are obscene or inflammatory, to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention.
- For other cases involving vandalism, personal attacks or other urgent issues, try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents; blatant vandalism can also be reported at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, which is sometimes a better option.
Do NOT post here if:
- the user in question has made no recent edits.
- you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy § Unblocking).
Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:
- has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
- has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
- is not already blocked.
If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.
Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Paki U Like (talk · contribs)
Paki U Like (talk · contribs) has a name which begins with a racial epithet. (This report is bumped from WP:AIV) Sam Blacketer 23:35, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Comment -OK, time for someone to educate me (maybe even a few of us). This one is new to me. What does it stand for? To me, it sounds like a carwash in Hawaii or something. --Kukini hablame aqui 23:44, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK...I see it could be seen as an epithet here [1]. I also note, it could be in reference to marijuana as well. The latter seems to make sense with the "u like" part. I dunno. Kukini hablame aqui 23:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Y'all sure this person is not a fan of Emma Paki?Kukini hablame aqui 23:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- It would be irrelevant if he was. We wouldn't allow someone to have nigger in their username if some guy had a last name of nigger, and apparently this is of equivalent offense in the UK.--Dycedarg ж 00:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

- Disallow. Paki is a perogatory term for people from Pakistan (and, ignorantly, anywhere else in South Asia), used in the UK. I am borderline on just blocking it. I am sure someone will. Neil (not Proto ►) 23:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- That explains it...growing up far from the UK, I would have never known that was a potentially offensive term. In Hawaii, the term Pake is used in a similar fashion, but not directed towards Pakistanis. Kukini hablame aqui 23:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - "Paki" is slang for a pakistani (If i am correct). Whether it is offensive or not, I am unsure of that. I have a friend who we jokingly call a "Paki" due to his decent but takes no offense to it. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 23:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's on a level with saying "well, I have a black friend we call a "nigger", but it's absolutely fine as he takes no offense to it". Neil (not Proto ►) 00:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Allow - It's slang, but I've never heard of it described as offensive. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 23:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Wiktionary says it is "derogatory, offensive and racist". Sam Blacketer 23:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, but I hear anyone can edit these wiki things... I kid, I kid. It goes on to say "The racist connotations are only known in the UK. In Australia, the Pakistani cricket team are commonly referred to as the Pakis, just as the West Indians are known as the Windies." Meh, I have no strong opinion. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 00:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Wiktionary says it is "derogatory, offensive and racist". Sam Blacketer 23:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- disallow - if you used this term in the uk, your next move would be to look for your teeth. Vile Racist slur (within the uk, your social contexts may vary...). It would be similar to someone calling themselves Nigger U like --Fredrick day 23:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Strong disallow - extremely offensive in UK and Ireland, as stated. Racial epithet - Alison☺ 23:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- comment - the userpage message suggests someone taking the piss, if they a brit as they claim, they are only too aware of the offense this name would cause. --Fredrick day 23:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also regardless of WP:AGF, it's almost guaranteed to be interpreted as inflammatory by others - Alison☺ 23:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

- Disallow This is a common racial slur in Canada as well. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 23:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow If it's as offensive as all that to people in the UK, then it shouldn't be allowed.--Dycedarg ж 23:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow per Fredrick day and Alison. --24fan24 (talk) 23:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow as user claims to be "Britain's top paki."Kukini hablame aqui 23:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Strong disallow - needlessly offensive. Microsoft Encarta describes 'Paki' as a taboo term. TerriersFan 00:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
