Biography

Vladimir Furdik was born on 1 July 1970, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia).[1]

Furdik started acting and stunt work early. Since 1970s, he was a member of theater groups in Czechoslovakia. He was a member of Tostabur Espadrones, a group that practiced, celebrated, and performed the traditional weaponry and fighting skills in Bratislava and throughout the country. He also participated in the theater and stunt Borseus, with which Natália Milanová, a minister of culture, also collaborated. The group was involved in performing and coordinating stunts in major films such as Kingdom of Heaven and Pearl Harbor and its leader Gustáv Kyselica became a mentor for the young Furdik.[1][2]

In the 1990s Furdik has already worked in Hollywood, first doing stunts for the low-budget horror film Tremors, but soon worked on The Three Musketeers.[1]

Furdik moved from the predominantly stunt work to direct acting in the 2000s. He played the role of Andrzej, a gypsy in the film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.[1]

Game of Thrones

Furdik participated in the production of Game of Thrones, following the crew to Belfast, Spain, and Croatia. For the series, he not only did stunt work, but also played one of the big roles, the Night King.[3] In Game of Thrones, besides the Night King, Furdik also made a cameo as the guy from whom the Children of the Forest create the first White Walker.[4]

He was the only Slovak playing one of the major roles on Game of Thrones.[1]
