George Thackeray was an eminent classical scholar, who served as Provost of King's College Cambridge from 1814 until his death in 1850. He was born in Windsor in 1777 and died at his house in Wimpole Street, London. He and his daughter bequeathed his library to King's College; a recent project funded by the United Kingdom Heritage Lottery Fund has led to the digitisation of material from this collection.
