Pushkar Shivkumar Sharma is an Indian-born Kenyan Cricketer.[1] He made his debut on November 17, 2022 against Saint Helena at the age of 22,[2] a year after scoring 841 runs from 14 innings in the NPCA (Nairobi Province Cricket Association) Super Division League.[3] He received sponsorship from IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company Limited (IndiaFirst Life).[4]

Career

He opened the batting for Kenya in the 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers alongside Collins Obuya.[5] He led Mumbai Under-16 team in 2014-15, where Prithvi Shaw played under his captaincy.[6] Pushkar Sharma also trained alongside Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai Under-16 probables squad.[7]

Biography

He was born in Thane, Maharashtra.[8] He joined YMCA club in Greater Noida before shifting to Mumbai, where he started playing for Al-Barkaat Malik English School.[9]

Domestic Career

The young cricketing talent, Pushkar Sharma, began by showcasing his prowess in the sport in Mumbai U-16 team[10]. He served as the captain of the team, scoring the highest 62 runs against Gujarat and leading his team to score a massive 210. Throughout his school cricketing career, Pushkar Sharma represented several districts and participated in state and national-level tournaments, including the Giles[11] and Harris Shields, one of the oldest and prominent School Cricket Tournaments in Mumbai. His highest score was 261[12] when he played from Giles Shield against B A K Swadhaya Bhawan (Matunga) in the year 2012-13. Pushkar Sharma reveals that a 'flick' is his favourite shot[13] and has improved his batting style and stance over the years, making him one of the best T20 batsmen in corporate tournaments. Pushkar Sharma also credits IndiaFirst Life for their constant support in sponsoring him[14].

Sponsorship

IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company, promoted by Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India, has announced sponsorship to Pushkar Sharma. The company has decided to assist an emerging star in the world of cricket by financially backing him to reach his highest potential.[15]

Pushkar, being a forever hardworking and determined person, had to face the biggest test of his life when his father passed away. Even while grieving on father’s loss and situation of the family, he did not give up on cricket.[16]
