Yekaterina Sergeyenva Duntsova (Russian: Екатери́на Серге́евна Дунцо́ва) is a Russian politician journalist and lawyer, which was been a deputy of the Rzhev City Duma of Tver Oblast (2019–2022).

On November 16, 2023, she announced her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.[1][2]

Life and career

Duntsova was born on April 24, 1983 in Krasnoyarsk.[3]

In 1995, she moved to Rzhev, Tver Oblast, where she graduated from high school.[3]

Duntsova began her career in 2003, when she worked for about a year at the Rzhev municipal television company, then for many years she was the head of a school television studio and her own project, which she did together with her husband, the independent television company RiT, which was closed in 2022. In the TV company, she covered the problems of the municipal level: housing and communal services, lawlessness of officials and crime.[3][4]

In 2009 Duntsova gathered more than 4,000 signatures against the abolition of elections of the mayor of Rzhev, and from 2019 to 2022 she was a member of the Rzhev City Duma.[4]

Currently, Duntsova works as a journalist and coordinates the work of a volunteer search and rescue team in Rzhev.[5]

2024 presidential campaign

On December 16, 2023, she announced her intention to run for President of the Russian Federation as an independent candidate.[6] On the same day, she announced the collection of signatures. Duntsova explained her intention to run for president by saying that "Russia has been moving in the wrong direction for the last ten years: the course is not aimed at development, but at self-destruction".[4] Duntsova stands for ending the Russo-Ukrainian war, democratic reforms, the release of political prisoners, including Alexei Navalny, restoring relations with the countries of the world, changing budget priorities and supporting minorities, including LGBT people.[1][7][8][9]

On November 20, Duntsova was summoned to the prosecutor's office, where they demanded to explain her position on the Russo-Ukrainian war.[10][5][11][12]
