Persian Gulf University (also known as PGU; دانشگاه خلیج فارس) is a public university located in the capital city of Bushehr, Bushehr province, Iran, originally established as Bushehr University in 1991. PGU is the first and the largest public university founded in the Bushehr province, Iran. Funding for research is partially provided by the Iranian government. Additionally, a number of business organizations have given Persian Gulf University support and funds for research in order to carry out the required initiatives and programs. PGU has collaborative agreements in place for research and teaching with several foreign universities.

History

Persian Gulf University is located in the coastal city of Bushehr. It is a public university accredited by Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. It began as a "Technical & Engineering College" with two majors in mechanical and civil engineering when Bushehr University was founded in 1991 and is today considered prestigious in Iran's southern region.

Today Persian Gulf University (PGU) consists of eight faculties that offer undergraduate courses leading to bachelor's degrees (B.A. or B.Sc.) in 29 disciplines, postgraduate courses leading to master's degrees (M.A. or M.Sc.) in 54 subjects, and doctoral courses leading to PhD degrees in 12 subjects. Persian Gulf University accepts students who pass the national entrance examination administered annually by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
