The Trust: A Game of Greed is an American reality game show broadcast on Netflix in 2024 and produced by Grandma's House Entertainment and Lighthearted Entertainment.[1] The competition brings together strangers who have the chance to split a quarter of a million dollars equally amongst themselves. The game unfolds over eight episodes, featuring a unique format where contestants are not eliminated each week, but instead, they have the opportunity to vote each other out anonymously, potentially increasing their individual share of the total prize pot.[2]

Format

Contestants in The Trust: A Game of Greed are presented with a once-in-a-lifetime offer: to split a quarter of a million dollars equally among themselves. No one is eliminated each week, but contestants have the opportunity to anonymously vote each other out, potentially increasing their individual share. Over eight episodes, participants face a series of tests designed to expose who's a team player and who's there for themselves. These tests force players to confront their biggest insecurities, long-held secrets, and histories.[3]

In each round, contestants gain access to The Vault, located underneath the luxury villa, using key cards distributed by chance. Inside The Vault, they are presented with two offers—one benefiting them individually and another helping the group. Contestants must accept one of the offers. The game culminates in a trust ceremony at the end of each episode, where contestants reveal their decisions. Majority rules, with ties allowing everyone to continue in the game.[4]

Host: Veteran journalist and former CNN correspondent Brooke Baldwin serves as the host for Season 1.[5]

Grand Prize: At the start of the competition, contestants are offered $250,000 to divide equally among themselves.[6]

Reception

The series has a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[7] Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the show a positive review, writing "We know what to expect, and 'The Trust' delivers, from the suspenseful techno-beat soundtrack to the swooping overhead drone camera shots to the 'confession room' interviews."[8] Rebecca Nicholson of The Guardian gave the series 3 out of 5 stars, calling it "a budget bootleg version of The Traitors".[9] Steve Greene of IGN wrote that that the premise was unoriginal but the show had "tiny flashes of something interesting under the surface that keeps The Trust from feeling completely unnecessary..[10]
