I wish that someone would rewrite this to reflect the reality of the issue:
He had noted in his lifetime that he was born in Genoa. His birth name was Cristoforo Colombo.
1- Columbus NEVER once noted, said or wrote that he was born in Genoa or any other place. Please do not allow falseties such as this to remain in the article. Furthermore the only document where he was to have said anything about Genoa is now proven to be a forgery by historian Manuel Rosa in Unmasking Columbus, "O Misterio Colombo Revelado" Esquilo, Lisbon 2006.
2- No one knows his real birth name. His name was changed to Cristoval Colon in 1484 to keep his real name secret therefore no one knows his true name.
Such statements should be modified to reflect the true facts of the history.
