Booburn (ブーバーン, Būbān, Booburn in original Japanese language versions) is one of Template:Pokenum species of Pokémon creatures from the Pokémon media franchise. The purpose of Booburn in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.

The name Booburn is a portmanteau of the words boom, an onomatopoeia for the sound of an explosion, and the word burn.

Biological characteristics

Booburn seems to be a buffed up humanoid version of Magmar. It has three sharp rows of claws on each hand that it can retract to transform its arms into powerful cannons, similar to Mega Man. These cannons are capable of firing 2000 °C (3632 °F) fireballs. Booburn has a more humanoid face than the decidedly avian Magmar, losing its duck bill-like mouth and being replaced with thick pink lips, somewhat similar to Machamp. Its body is large and rotund with striped yellow and red flame markings wrapping around it. It has two red flaming shoulders and a single, large red and yellow flame on top of its head. It has pink thighs which are rather small in proportion to its own body. Booburn has two rows of pink spikes running down its back. Booburn also has black metallic bands around its legs and neck, just like Magmar, as well as having some around its arms upon evolution. Booburn make their homes in the craters of volcanoes.

In the video games

Although Magmortar debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Magby and Magmar are only obtainable when the player obtains the National Dex and has a Pokémon LeafGreen cartridge plugged into the Nintendo DS.

Magmar evolves into Magmortar when it has been traded while holding a new item called the Magmarizer. This item is sometimes found attached to wild Magby.
