term
[edit]The term "giant diffuse galaxy" is not in common use by astronomers. Nor is "cD galaxy" a "contraction" of "giant diffuse galaxy", as the article erroneously states. This page should be deleted and/or merged with Brightest Cluster Galaxy. ClarketheK (talk) 10:16, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- "c" is a Yerkes term for supergiant, "D" is the classification for diffuse, so it's a supergiant diffuse galaxy. "cD" is a Yerkes galaxy classification [1]. In current nomenclature, it's usually called a central dominant galaxy (cD) 70.29.208.247 (talk) 07:57, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
