Hello, thank you for being my mentor! I actually created this account because I've noticed in a number of the newer or more obscure articles about my home country, Bangladesh, the following issues: a. The citations do not match the content being talked about. b. The citations are opinion pieces with no references of their own, and may be rather biased, somewhat like an argumentative essay with no bibliography. c. The content itself is either biased or AI-generated.
In these issues, especially the ones on dubious citations, what is the appropriate course of action?
Thanks! --Shirsho12 (talk) 03:00, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- Shirsho12, can you give some examples of such articles, please? — Qwerfjkltalk 03:10, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- So the article that caught my attention recently is this:
- Indian influence in Bangladesh
- While I haven't fact checked all of the citations on this page (yet), the section "Cultural and intellectual dominance" contains content that doesn't match the citations. I've described it in more detail in my rebuttal to the author. You'll find it here: User talk:Shirsho12. My concern here is that the citations and the content presented in the section do not match. Is there some sort of an "Inaccurate Citation" tag I'm supposed to apply? Shirsho12 (talk) 10:45, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- Shirsho12, given the problems with the section, I would say it's reasonable to remove the section. I note you attempted to do this and was reverted by Emdad Tafsir, but I think their revert was unreasonable. I suggest you wait a few days for a response (it is the holidays after all, and it has only been a day), and if there is no response forthcoming, go ahead and remove the section again. — Qwerfjkltalk 16:53, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

Report more CS1 errors?
[edit]Happy New Year! I'm happy your bot is still posting gentle notices on user talk pages to point out when they add a CS1 error to an article. Would you please consider adding more CS1 error categories to the bot's work, such as Category:CS1 errors: ISBN, Category:CS1 errors: dates, Category:CS1 errors: generic name, and Category:CS1 errors: URL? Thanks and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:06, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Request to personally be removed from Qwerfjkl (bot)'s automatic talkpage notifications regarding CS1 citation date errors
[edit]Can you please stop me from getting talkpage pings from Qwerfjkl (bot) about CS1 citation date errors? This a problem on the WMF's end not mine. Visual Editor's citation creation tool creates year-month only number dates for publications that do not have an individual publication day, for example an article published in "December 2007" would be date formatted as 2007-12. which is treated as CS1 invalid error. This issue has bugged me enough over the years that several years ago, I asked the people who operate Wikipedia's citation formatting if they could properly recognise year-month only number dates generated by the visual editor citation creation tool and they refused, citing the potential for confusion, despite the enormous number of CS1 date errors that need to be fixed as a consequence. The issue frankly bugs me to no end, and I do not appreciate the new annoyance of having a bot ping my talkpage to remind me of it everytime I accidentally make an edit that leaves one in when I am well aware of the problem. There are bots (as well as very kind people) that automatically fix the error within a few minutes/hours of making the edit regardless. Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:16, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hemiauchenia, as it says on the bot's userpage, you can use
{{bots|optout=cs1-errors}}to opt out. (Unless you want to specifically opt out of date errors? It's not clear to me from what you wrote.) I enabled the CS1 category per § Report more CS1 errors?; if you think it's a bad idea I can remove it. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:50, 7 January 2026 (UTC)- Thanks. Sorry for not looking close enough somewhere that should've been obvious. I wish the CS1 citation date issue could be resolved at its citation generation source, which would save everybody a lot of time and hassle, but I am not sure where to escalate to. Administrators' newsletter – January 2026
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2025).
- All general sanctions imposed by the community may now be enforced at the Arbitration Enforcement noticeboard (WP:AE) as a result of a recent RfC.
- Due to the result of a recent RFC, the administrator recall process is amended to extend the deadline for a re-request for adminship to 30 days or the next administrator election, whichever is later.
- Changes to the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy's disclosure rules include broadening the consecutive-blocks exception to cover all admin actions and removing the requirement to revision-delete permissible disclosures once they become unnecessary (instead requiring only their removal). See WP:TAIVDISCLOSE for more information.
- Following the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: Aoidh, Asilvering, Girth Summit, Guerillero, HJ Mitchell, HouseBlaster, Izno, Sdrqaz, SilverLocust.
- The arbitration case Pbsouthwood has been suspended.

Bug in MassTFD
[edit]Hi Qwerfjkl! Hope you are doing well. I encountered a bug when using WP:MASSXFD, specifically the TFD option. When I accidentally left a blank line at the end of the list of templates to nominate, the button to make the nomination would not work. It would silently error (except for some WP:CONSOLEERRORs, which I can send if that would help). Deleting the empty line fixed the issue. Would it be possible to simply discard blank lines? Weekly highlight
- The Wikimedia Foundation has shared some guiding questions for the July 2026–June 2027 Annual Plan on Meta and Diff. These focus on global trends, faster and healthier experimentation, better support for newcomers, strengthening editors and advanced users, improving collaboration across projects, and growing and retaining readership. Feedback and ideas are welcome on the talk page.
Updates for editors
- As part of the current work of Community Tech team on the Multiple watchlists project, the display of EditWatchlist will be updated as a first step towards multiple watchlists. Additionally, the pagination on Search will be updated too, as a part of the work on the Revamp pagination / page navigation wish. [1]
- The Global Watchlist is a MediaWiki extension that lets you see your watchlists from different wikis on the same page. It was recently updated to look more like the regular Watchlist, such as preparing it for temporary accounts in IP masking (including rerouting user links to contributions pages), making page titles bold, and opening links in edit summaries and tags in new browser tabs. [2][3][4][5]
View all 28 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the issue where global blocks did not have the option to disable sending emails, has now been fixed, and will be available for use in the week of January 13. [6]
Updates for technical contributors
- The VisualEditor citation tool and Reference Previews now support "map" as a reference type. [7]

- Noorlight12, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun!
