Stair carpets
This page includes the sentence
"Fitted Carpets were originally woven together to the dimensions of the specific area they were covering and were later made in smaller strips, around the time stair carpet became popular, and woven at the site of the job by the carpet fitter."
does the author know when 'around the time stair carpets became popular' was?
Power stretcher
Changed bit about knee kickers and power stretchers. If a professional installed shows up with no power stretcher, he isnt a professional installer. The carpet will need to be re stretched within 2 years if not. 72.66.246.102 (talk) 20:39, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Vacuum cleaners
Since you can simply lift a non-fitted carpet off the floorboards, take it outside and shake it out, but you can't do any such thing with fitted carpets, my guess is that their rise in popularity would have been associated with the rise of the vacuum cleaner. Is this true? If so, when did people (in various countries) start owning vacuum cleaners and/or start going for fitted carpets in a big way? Presumably people with experience in the carpet fitting trade will know about this! Beorhtwulf (talk) 23:02, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- This discussion is not related to improving the article. Your speculation re vacuums and experienced carpet fitters are original research unless you are referring to a reliable source making this observation. Thanks. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:52, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Speculation indeed, that's why I didn't just go ahead and put it in the article. I am making an enquiry on the talk page (note the specific questions I ask) as an interested reader to see if there is anyone watching this page, or anyone who will come across it in future, who can incorporate well-sourced information into the article about a link between the popularity of fitted carpets and vacuum cleaners, if such a link exists. I really think this is quite reasonable and not at all an abuse of the talk page. Beorhtwulf (talk) 00:56, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Your speculation about vacuums + speculation about a future editor + a hypothetical source backing up your speculation = speculation3 = you asking a question about fitted carpet. If you have a reliable source discussing this, it might be appropriate. You don't. It isn't. - SummerPhD (talk) 01:28, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
