Problems with modern prisons

There is an article by David Scheer: Le paradoxe de la modernisation carcérale (The paradox of prison modernisation), which is cited by a 2021 article in Prison Insider: Belgium: what is Haren?. The key point is that the politicians and press think that modern prisons are better than Dickensian prisons; but "many prison officers and prisoners say they prefer to live in old prisons – sometimes very dilapidated and unsanitary – than in new prison constructions presented as cleaner, healthier and more comfortable". I need to try and put some of this in the article; it shows that the reaction of the prisoner from Vorst (Forest) was only to be expected.-- Toddy1 (talk) 22:46, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
