His name could be related to the Greek word Ἀχάτης "agate", but I can't find any references for that. --Omnipedian (talk) 22:56, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe he appears in book 12 also, after Aeneas gets injured, Achates, Mnestheus and Ascanius carry him back to camp. Book XII, Line 521. --Ye Olde Luke (talk) 01:50, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
