Abdul Matin Chaudhury -incorrect fact
[edit]It is not mentioned in the text of the Article, but on the side panel it is mentioned that AMC was a Minister of Agriculture in Pakistan in 1947-1948. This is a TOTALLY INCORRECT information. No source is cited anywhere as basis of the info. He was never a Minister in Pakistan. This info needs to be deleted.
For the 16 months that he was alive after the birth of Pakistan (Aug 1947 to Dec 1948), the only two appointments that he held were: 1. Member, Pakistan Constituent Assembly; and 2. Member, Pakistan Pay Commission. Bhadeswar (talk) 15:35, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again Bhadeswar. The above request is of no use here on your Talk Page as no-one will be looking for it. Instead, place it on the Talk Page of the article, where interested editors will see it. Place it in a new section just below the thread you have already placed there declaring your COI. Preferably, you should use the template {{edit COI}} or use the edit request wizard. In these cases, the system alerts people who are interested in fulfilling these requests to take a look. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:56, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Bhadeswar, I have reviewed your edit request on the article talk page and declined it at present for reasons I have stated below your request. Please feel free to look at my feedback and leave me a message if you have any questions. Thank you, Redtree21 (talk) 08:35, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Redtree21, @Bhadeswar I see that a redirect is very confusing here and may be confusing the issue about the minister of agriculture. The current title of the article is Abdul Matin Chaudhary with an "a" in the surname, yet the whole article only refers to Abdul Matin Chaudhury with a "u" in the surname. Redtree's decline of the edit request is on the redirect's Talk Page, not the article's Talk Page (where Bhadeswar has repeated the request). It seems to me that the request can't be declined because of lack of a source: the whole point is that the main article has no source to say that Chaudhury ever held that position: it is simply an uncited assertion in the infobox. To add further confusion, another Wikipedia article at Golapganj_Upazila#Notable_people asserts (again without citation) that he was agriculture minister. Do we have a source to clarify who was the first agriculture minister? Meaanwhile I would recommend that Redtree remove the uncited information per request and move the article over the redirect so that it is clear that the "u" surname is the more valid one here. - In the 1947 Constituent Assembly Debates, cited as footnote 1 in the article, the name is spelled as Chaudhary, whereas in the 2011 biography, article footnote 3, it is spelled as Chaudhury. There is no confusion that it is the same person. In various parts of the sub-continent it is spelled differently with w, u, a., with parents and children using different spellings.
- The first Pakistani Agriculture Minister was Raja Ghazanfar Ali from Aug to Dec 1947. In December, Abdus Sattar Pirzada was given the portfolio ref https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:First_Pakistani_Cabinet
- AMC's name is not on the list.
- In his native district Sylhet, where Golapganj Upazila is located, even today, after nearly a century, he is known as Kola Mia Minister. meaning Minister in Assam. Some village folk might have unknowingly inserted Pakistan in place of Assam, without citing any ref. Bhadeswar (talk) 04:22, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

- Hello @Bhadeswar: and @Michael D. Turnbull:; I have implemented the changes suggested by Mike Turnbull. I was under the impression that the request was to add information to the article when I declined it - I am not very experienced with edit requests and made an error, my apologies for this. Regarding the article title, I have gone with Mike Turnbull's suggestion of moving the page as the last name was spelled Chaudhury in the majority of the article. I have also removed the Minister of Agriculture information in the infobox. Thank you, Redtree21 (talk) 11:17, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Redtree21. For completeness, it might be a good idea to comment at Talk:Abdul Matin Chaudhury that the requested change has now been made. If Bhadeswar has further ideas and sources for future additions to the article, they can also be made there. I've updated the Golapganj Upazila article to use the "u" spelling and correct profession.
