No, this is not original research[edit]

Chuck Hansen in his "Secret History" book used the words there, and they were preceded by an earlier reference. Don't expect to see a literature chain of more detail; that was made more classified. People took too much of popular histories to heart not realizing that the development of nuclear weapons progressed (more: how it progressed) following the Mark I Little Boy and Mark III Fat Man.
