Michael Fakhri

Michael Fakhri is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and an associate professor of Law and the University of Oregon.

Fakhri was appointed to his position as Special Rapporteur by the UN Human Rights Council in March 2020. He assumed his functions on 1 May 2020.[1] Fakhri called on the goverment of Venezuela to develop a robust plan to address hunger and malnutrition and for an end to the economic sanctions imposed on the country. [2] He believes that Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians in Gaza saying "In my view as a UN human rights expert, this is now a situation of genocide." [3]
