discount retail

99 Cents Only Stores announced last week that it was going to liquidate, although at THAT time it expected to do so outside the bankruptcy system. I posted that as a story and no one complained of its non-notability. Isn't it still there? Notability: the chain operates in four states with more than 10 thousand employees and has a significant place in pop culture (including a spoofing reference in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.)The unsustainability of the discount retailing model, at least in a brick-and-mortar context, is a broader thematic point illustrated here.
