The Kinabuan Formation is a geological formation located in the Philippines. It was named by Melendres and Versoza in 1960 for the flysch-like sedimentary deposits along Kinabuan Creek, which is north of Barangay Santa Ines, Tanay, Rizal (formerly within Antipolo).[1]

Composition

The formation is comprised of basaltic flows, breccia, greywacke, highly-indurated sandstone, shale, and/or chert.[2] The basal part of the sedimentary sequence is said to be associated with underlying pillow basalts and basaltic breccias.[1] However, it seems like the characterization of the Sacred Stone differs from the composition of the Kinabuan Formation.[2]

Associated formations

The Kinabuan Formation is associated with other formations such as the Angat, Maybangain, and Barenas-Baito Formations.[3] Among the limestone deposits found in the area are the limestone members of Maybangain Formation, Kinabuan Formation, and Binangonan Formation, which occur as separate bodies within the study area.[4]
