The pronunciation of "Schoenersville" serves as a local shibboleth of sorts so that longtime area residents can tell when someone is from out of the area or recently-moved to the Lehigh Valley. People who are not German-American or at least mindful of such a name origin and the German vowel sound will say "SHOW-nerz-vil" if they didn't grown up around the name.
