"Benin Boys" is a song by Nigerian singers Rema and Shallipopi, released by Mavin Records, and Jonzing World on June 20, 2024. It was produced by Rema and producer X.[1][2]
Background
Rema and Shallipopi wrote the song in 2024, after meeting at a Lagos music festival, in 2023.[3] Both of them uploaded a studio clip on January 30, 2024.[4] The song was produced by producer X, with Rema as co-producer.[5]
Composition
Produced by Rema and Producer X, the song features an afrobeats rhythm, percussion instruments, a bassline, and keyboard synths.[6] The chord progression is centered around C minor and G7.[7]
Critical reception
Oumou Fofana of BET described the track as "a dynamic exchange of verses over heavy drums and electrifying background strings".[8]
