Regarding sources heavily/mainly relying on Burton
It is more suitable to use better sources for sensitive caste related topics. The colonial administrator Burton is considered highly unreliable especially regarding Sindhi Hindus. He considered Sindhi Hindus & Muslims different races. If you want to read in detail regarding his unreliability on Sindhi Hindus & Sindh related stuff, then check out these academic sources:
