Asheru is an alternative rapper from Washington d.c who is Most well known for his performance of the intro and outro themes of the television program The Boondocks, Asheru has collaberated with a wide variety of Hip-Hop artists including Jay-Live, Talib Kweli, Grap Luva, HUYU. He is member of the Unspoken Heard, along with Blue Black. Asheru's lyrics are categorized by reflection upon the state of affairs of the current-day negro. Through his music, he demonstrates a desire to improve the attitude of Blacks towards education and culture. Songs in which Asheru is featured, such as 'Smiley' and 'Balance' generally include more of a melodic influence, in direct contrast to the bare drum rhythms characteristic of contemporary hip. This is evident in the the flute and piano solos that often grace his releases.
