Managing a conflict of interest
Hello, Andycosslett. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Andy Cosslett, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. BugGhost🪲👻 08:35, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Marcus Markup. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Andy Cosslett, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Marcus Markup (talk) 08:44, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Marcus, it is myself editing my page to add the correct information? Andycosslett (talk) 08:51, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Andy Cosslett, you may be blocked from editing. Marcus Markup (talk) 08:48, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Andy Cosslett. Marcus Markup (talk) 08:51, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again, I will add some sources now Andycosslett (talk) 08:53, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. And congratulations on your promotion. Marcus Markup (talk) 08:56, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Can i change anything? My changes have dissapeared? Andycosslett (talk) 08:58, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Andy - Marcus reverted a lot of your changes because of the problems mentioned above (additions being unsourced, conflict of interest problems). I've since added a couple of details back in (namely the ITV chairmanship info), along with citations. I'd recommend reading this guideline about conflicts of interest which will give you info about what you should or shouldn't do in this scenario. The gist of it is: you are discouraged from editing your own article, but you're encouraged to make suggestions (such as in talk page) when you think there should be a change to the article. If you do edit your own article, please be very careful to avoid puffery, as this might be seen as self promotion, and be sure to include citations for any additions. - Hi there, thanks for explaining, can other items be added back in that are obviously correct such as correct spelling of my surname, that I have three children not two, that I am divorced not married? Andycosslett (talk) 09:11, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
