Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Abigailbassett", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is the same as that of a notable person. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. I am Abigail Bassett an American Journalist--that is me. It does not violate the policy because I am that person. Thank you. Abigailbassett (talk) 15:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Abigailbassett Assuming that you are Abigail Bassett, you should likely avoid editing your own page. Writing on Wikipedia as an autobiography is strongly discouraged per WP:Auto. You should really only edit your own biography if it is unambiguous vandalism or clear-cut and serious violations of Wikipedia's biography of living persons policy. Please check WP:COIREQ for suggesting edits to your biography. Thank you. BullDawg2021 (talk) 20:23, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. I got a spam email about a wiki page that was about me being deleted and am completely new at this. Apparently the page literally just went up two days ago (I didn't make it, and already it's being deleted, so that's awesome) Well see if it gets deleted since apparently I (the actual real life person) have zero input on it. Seems like a pretty messed up "system" to this journalist.... Abigailbassett (talk) 02:34, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who did you pay to create the article? S0091 (talk) 15:46, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't pay anyone! I got an unsolicited email about a page that had been created about me. That's how I found the page. I emailed this person back but the email address failed (gmail tried for three days but it couldn't find the domain...). I'd NEVER pay to have a page put up about me--it goes against my code of ethics. Abigailbassett (talk) 15:59, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Please see WP:SCAM and please send any info you have to paid-en-wpwikipedia.org. The editor who created the article was just blocked for violating Wikipedia's Terms of Use and other dubious activities. S0091 (talk) 16:01, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and the article will likely be deleted but if you desire a Wikipedia article about you, see Your first article. You can create a draft and submit it for review using Articles for Creation which is the recommended process for those with a conflict of interest. Drafts do not have the same restrictions as articles so you are free to create/edit a draft. S0091 (talk) 16:09, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you're right. I hate that someone created it (with tons of inaccuracies) about me, and tried to fix it myself, but clearly have zero idea about any of the procedures here. I forwarded the email I got to the email address you suggested. The person said that if the page was deleted, I couldn't use the same name to build a new one. Is that accurate? (from the email: "Please be advised that once your details are sent over for the deletion and the page is deleted, the same content and title will not be usable for the next entry.") Does that mean that all the actual experience and clips I have wouldn't be able to be used for another page? I can't change what I have done (or the awards that I've won etc.) I'm not sure if you saw in the deletion discussion but I included references for all my work. I'm also referenced in an existing Wikipedia article. I can repost here if it's helpful. I just don't want to end up in a position where, should I decide that I actually want a page in the future, and I can't because someone else took that opportunity from me. Abigailbassett (talk) 16:21, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's a lie. An editor in good standing, which you are, can recreate it. Let the AfD play out in case it is kept, which if it is riddled with errors I hope it's not. You can also request in the AfD it be deleted due to your concerns which will probably hold some weight given you are subject, then start over with a draft. And also pinging @RoySmith who is the administrator who blocked the user, Comintell, so they are aware of this discussion. I believe they also have access to the above referenced email (only a very limited group of editors with special permissions have access). If you do send an email, please let us know. Email sent. Also here are the details I included to "verify" in the other deletion thread: "Hi there, I'm Abigail Bassett (the actual journalist that this page is about) and I have no idea how it was created, and I see that it was only built a few days ago. I received a random (questionable) email message about it and have been working on updating and editing it to meet Wikipedia needs and to be accurate to my career. I won the Peabody as part of the team that produced coverage of Hurricane Katrina at CNN, and I won two Emmy's for my work on Lou Dobb's Tonight's Education and Immigration series. Here is the Peabody link I was part of the CNN Presents production, and worked for Anderson Cooper during that time. Here is a link to the Lou Dobbs Emmy the staff won. Also, here is the Wikipedia link to his profile which also confirms this. I have also appeared on camera for CNN (a couple of sample links are here and here) I'm happy to provide more if needed. My work is also referenced in this Wikipedia article about Fisker. Abigailbassett (talk) 16:38, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The email will not help with the article so apologies I did not make that clear. Functionaries (the ones who have access) do not make content decisions like this, nor do administrators. Based on what you say though, it sounds like you meet Wikipedia's notability criteria (see WP:JOURNALIST). Because of who created the article it meets speedy deletion criteria (meaning it could be deleted now) but because there is an active discussion at WP:AfD, I am not sure what will happen. Consensus based on editor's !vote may be to speedy delete it or the discussion may continue. Generally, 'normal' AfDs last at least a week. S0091 (talk) 16:54, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I meant I forwarded the email to paid-en-wpwikipedia.org. I suppose I'll just hang tight until a final decision is made? Will I get some kind of notification? Also, thank you so much for your help. I'm a total newbie (obviously) and appreciate your kindness and patience. Abigailbassett (talk) 16:56, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
