I-Empire is the sophomore album by Angels and Airwaves. It is set to be released sometime during October 2007.

On 20 June 2007, an email was sent to fans stating that I-Empire was the second half to their debut album 2006's We Don't Need to Whisper. I-Empire is slated for a October 2007 release.

The Making of the Album

In an interview with alternative radio on 20 May 2007, Tom DeLonge said that the album was 60-70% complete and that the record should be out in September or October 2007. Tom also stated that the album would continue the element of the first album but "times ten", and that in a story, I-Empire would follow We Don't Need To Whisper; We Don't Need To Whisper being a 're-birth' of life, and I-Empire being an album about what you do after the re-birth. On 30 May 2007, Tom DeLonge stated in an interview with Kerrang! that the new album would be named I-Empire and this is as exciting as rock 'n' roll gets!. In an Alternative Press interview with Tom, it was revealed that there will be between 11 and 13 songs on the new album.

Angels and Airwaves started work on the album in the beginning of 2007. I-Empire is set to be the first ever album recorded in the Macbeth Studio.

Tentative Tracks

In an online chat with the band on 14 June 2007, they said that they didn't have any song names yet. The band also said that there would be 10 tracks on the record (one of which will be "Star of Bethlehem"), and that they are working on acoustics for each song.

On 19 June 2007, the words "If I had my own world, I'd build you an empire" appeared on the band's website. These words may be lyrics from the upcoming "I-Empire" album.

Release Speculation

In an Alternative Press interview, DeLonge says "When we launch this record, we'll also be launching a major piece of technology that will revolutionize mainstream America." Although he's stingy with the details, DeLonge hints the mystery might be some type of operating system. It was made clear in an earlier radio interview that in fact it is an Operating System, Tom mentioned "We are building an operating system"[citation needed]. Theories have suggested that it may be a special type of musician operating system, or a method of operating music live. Another theory is that the band will be showcasing new hologram technology at their future live shows.

In a Herald Sun interview, DeLonge states "My companies are about ready to launch a revolutionary application for the Internet that will change the face of music in a really exciting new way. And being that I'll have control of that (laughs), my band will be in front of everybody's face." This hints that the new technology might be a new Internet portal (like Yahoo! or MSN) or a software application.

Tom then goes on to say, "It's my concept. It's basically because people are burning so many CDs that bands can't make any money off their music. So there's like a paradigm shift happening in music and people have to create new ways to sustain a workable career, and a workable business model. So I have some ideas that will help that out. It'll add a pretty hefty ingredient to the music industry." This goes back to the idea that perhaps it is a completely new type of system (whether it be an OS, a website, or an application).

The album will be released under Geffen Records in partnership with Universal Music Group & Island Records
