In 1993, Shwed invented and patented Stateful Inspection, now a de facto standard technology. After serving in the army he used his experience in the Israel Defense Forces to write the first version of FireWall-1, the company's software solution that became the world's first commercially available firewall product in 1994. He wrote it with his 2 co-founders.

Checkpoint is currently the world leader in securing the internet.
