Greek is a teen drama television series that premiered on the ABC Family network on July 9, 2007. Ten episodes were ordered to run from July through September of 2007. The show follows the story of Rusty (played by Jacob Zachar), a college freshman who wants to have fun in college and leave behind his reputation as a high school geek. He wishes to join a fraternity, but his sister Casey (played by Spencer Grammer) does not want him to interfere with her current enjoyment of Greek life, especially since she is running for president of her sorority. It is also known that Jessica Rose, popularly known for her role as Bree in the lonelygirl15 internet series, will appear as a recurring character. Most of the characters belong to either the fictional fraternities Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ) and Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ), or the fictional sorority Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒΖ).

Cast

  • Rusty Cartwright (Jacob Zachar) - the good hearted, nerdy, freshman brother of Casey's from Chicago who wants to party and break out of his shell. He pledges Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ) after declining Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ). He appears to be a virgin, and still feels uncomfortable around girls.
  • Casey Cartwright (Spencer Grammer) - Rusty's older sister who is fighting for the position of president of Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒΖ) sorority. Prior to Rusty arriving on campus, she did not let anyone know she had a brother. She is dating Evan Chambers. It is implied that she and Cappie were once boyfriend and girlfriend, and she describes their first time as something she looks back on with no regrets. It seems as if she may still have feelings for Cappie, though she denies it.
  • Cappie (Scott Michael Foster) - Casey's ex-boyfriend who befriends Rusty. He appears to still have strong feelings for Casey. He is the president of ΚΤΓ. He and Casey were once boyfriend and girlfriend, and it says that they broke up, because Casey really did want to join the Zeta Beta's and they wouldn't allow her to be dating Cappie at the time. They do get back together for one night, after Casey learns Evan slept with Rebecca Logan, though Casey returns to Evan afterwards.
  • Evan Chambers (Jake McDorman) - Casey's boyfriend, who is president of ΩΧΔ. Evan, feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of spending the rest of his life with Casey, had a one-night stand with Rebecca during rush. Evan feels remorseful and tries making it up to Casey, who eventually forgives him.
  • Calvin Owens (Paul James) - Rusty's friend, whom he met during rush. He pledges ΩΧΔ as a legacy. He is gay and in the closet, having had a bad experience when he came out in high school, with Rusty being the only person who knows. He is in a relationship with a guy from ΚΤΓ. During high school, he was also an all-state ice hockey player.
  • Dale (Clark Duke) - Rusty's religious, nerdy roommate from Texas. He is a member of an abstinence group and he hangs a confederate flage above his bed in the room that he and Rusty share.
  • Ashleigh (Amber Stevens) - Casey's best friend at ΖΒΖ. She implies that she has a boyfriend, and even remains faithful to him, even though they hardly get to see each other.
  • Rebecca Logan (Dilshad Vadsaria) - the Senator's daughter who was the major target in rush. Casey bribes her to pledge ΖΒΖ to ensure her election as president, though their relationship deteriorates when Casey discovers her one night stand with Evan.

Music

As TV series go, Greek has done a great job of including new interesting music in their show. One of the first episode's included the track, "Our Time Now" from the breakthrough band, The Plain White T's. Other artists that have gotten their music into Greek include; Albert Hammond Jr. (the guitarist from The Strokes), Maria Taylor, and Finger Eleven.

Name of the show

The Greek letter "Sigma" is not the equivalent of the Latin letter "E."
  • ABC advertises the name of the show spelled with the Greek letter Sigma (since it resembles an E in the English alphabet) instead of Epsilon. Taken literally, the name of the show is actually GRSSK, since Sigma is the Greek letter equivalent for the English S. E is derived from the Greek letter epsilon which is much the same in appearance (Ε, ε) and function.
